How long does film (in a roll or a disposable camera) last?
I've got some rolls of film and some disposable camera that are a few years old, and I was wondering if they would still be able to be developed.
Film isn't like food...it doesn't suddenly "go bad" right after the expiration date. It degrades very slowly, over months or even years (depending on the ISO of the film and where it was stored).
Every film has an ISO rating. You'll see it labeled on the box and also on the roll. The ISO number indicates the film's light sensitivity. A film with a higher ISO rating is more sensitive. So for example, 400 ISO film is more light sensitive than 200 ISO film. However, this also means that a film with a higher ISO number is more sensitive to natural radiation. Over a very long time, undeveloped film can become "fogged" and your pictures will start to look more grainy with dull colors. But again, this is not an overnight process. It happens gradually.
I think your pictures will be fine. A few years really isn't that bad. I've used film from 2003 and the pictures turned out normal.
